Driving the Water Transition: The Global Water Summit 2026 Arrives in Madrid

As the SOLUCIR project moves forward in its mission to accelerate circular and decentralised water management, a major milestone for the international water sector is appearing on the horizon. From 18–20 May 2026, the Global Water Summit (GWS) will convene in Madrid, Spain, bringing together over 1,200 senior executives, utility CEOs, and infrastructure investors to address the defining challenge of our time: delivering the water transition.

The theme of this year’s summit—“We failed the energy transition – how do we succeed with water?”—resonates deeply with the core objectives of SOLUCIR. While our project focuses on overcoming technical and regulatory barriers to decentralized water systems, the GWS provides the high-level business and financial framework necessary for these solutions to scale globally.

As SOLUCIR develops its five “Pathfinding Studies,” the insights generated in Madrid regarding market acceleration and strategic investment will be invaluable. The summit serves as a reminder that the transition to a water-smart economy requires not only innovative technology but also the financial and political will to implement it at scale.
